Totem opens with a loud, juicy collision of citrus and tropical fruit. Bergamot, lemon, tangerine, and orange provide a bright, sunny rush, but it is the melon, pineapple, and black currant that really define the first few minutes. This is a sweet, slightly synthetic fruit salad, given a sharp edge by ginger and a dusty, medicinal pinch of cloves and nutmeg. It feels energetic and very loud, immediately announcing itself as a product of the early 2000s with its cheerful, slightly chaotic acceleration of candied zest.
The heart tries to rein in the sugar. Lavender is the clear star here, bringing a clean, soapy, almost medicinal floralcy that pushes back against the sticky fruit. Hawthorn and jasmine are present, but they mostly serve to support the lavender’s clean, slightly powdery dryness. This transition is where the scent starts to shift from a playful summer splash into something more structured. Amber and musk provide a golden, skin-like warmth, while vetiver and oakmoss pull the scent back to earth with a bitter, green, slightly damp forest floor feeling. Ebony and cedar add a dark, polished wood texture that grounds the lingering sweetness. This phase is the most balanced, trading the neon brightness of the top notes for a sophisticated, slightly rugged blend of resin and moss.
This is a scent for bright, active days when the air is warm but not heavy. It captures the feeling of a walk through a dewy garden that opens onto a sunlit patio. The fruit is for the morning energy, the lavender for the midday heat, and the mossy base for the cooler, shaded moments under trees. It suits someone who appreciates a scent that can handle a bit of evolution, starting with a loud, happy shout and ending in a low, steady hum of warm, green wood.
