Our take

Ciara opens with a bright, almost jarring raspberry and citrus accord that feels like a vintage seltzer fizzing against polished brass. Within minutes, the middle notes take over: Brazilian rosewood and ylang-ylang weave a floral that is lush but not sweet, with orris adding a dusty, lipstick-like texture. The dry down is where this fragrance earns its reputation. Opoponax and incense merge with leather and vanilla, creating a smoky, balsamic warmth that clings to the skin like a well-worn leather armchair in a dimly lit study. The overall character is a woman in a floor-length mink coat, standing alone on a cold autumn night, exuding quiet authority without apology.

This is a heavy, unabashedly synthetic oriental, but that synthetic edge is part of its charm. It smells like 1973 distilled into a bottle, and frankly, you either love that or you don’t. With longevity scoring a solid 3.90 and sillage a modest 3.48, Ciara lasts hours on fabric but stays close to the skin after the first few, making it intimate rather than bombastic. It suits someone who wants to smell like a cashmere blanket soaked in incense and leather, not a fruit basket. Skip it if you prefer airy aquatics or shy away from bold, dated animalic notes. Wear it on a crisp fall evening, preferably with a turtleneck and a glass of dark rum. Could you imagine wearing this in July? Don’t.
