Cosi Blu opens with a hallucinatory jolt of absinthe and crushed bark, the green bitterness cut by a strawberry so ripe it feels almost candied. Nutmeg and cinnamon hover like dust motes in a pharmacy lamp, sweet but not syrupy. Then the floral heart arrives magnolia, rose, jasmine, lily of the valley all powdered into a faintly soapy bouquet that struggles to keep its petals above the spice. The drydown is where this fragrance earns its oriental tag: incense and olibanum meet a barnyard trio of civet, castoreum, and hay, all smoothed over by vanilla and sandalwood. The result is a weatherbeaten velvet curtain embroidered with strawberry seeds, heavy, smoky, and just this side of unhinged.
It feels dense and slightly synthetic in the opening chord, though the base resins and animalics anchor it with surprising warmth. Longevity is solid at nearly four out of five, but sillage is moderate, hovering close to the skin after an hour. That makes it ideal for a winter evening when you want a scent that unravels slowly rather than announcing itself from across the room.
This is for the person who loves amber and spice but craves a twist of fruit and a flicker of filth. Skip it if you recoil from animalic base notes or if your idea of daring is a spritz of Sauvage.
