Our take

Io opens with a bright, almost jammy burst of black currant and passionfruit, a sugary mandarin peel twisting through the top before the florals step in. Rose and jasmine intertwine with osmanthus’s apricot-like fuzz while orange blossom adds a soapy clean edge. Within minutes, the fruit recedes and a powdery iris softens the bloom, then the base settles into a creamy sandalwood and oakmoss accord, patched with just enough earthy vetiver and vanilla to keep it from turning shrill. The overall character is like a jewel box lined with mossy velvet, each note a polished stone catching light in a dim room. It feels elegant but not aloof, leaning natural in its composition despite a subtle synthetic sheen that betrays its 1995 launch. Daniela Andrier gave this a distinctively Italian restraint: it is sweet but not syrupy, woody without being harsh. The longevity is modest at a few hours, and sillage hovers close to the skin, so do not expect a room-filler. This suits someone who prefers a refined, quietly sensual fragrance for daytime in spring or autumn, or for a polished evening dinner. Skip it if you crave loud projection or a gourmand vanilla bomb the fruit here is tart, not candy. This is the scent of a silk blouse with the top button undone, perfectly appropriate for the office yet intimate enough for an afternoon walk in October.
