Our take

Quorum dates to 1981, and the composition has not been softened since: artemisia and caraway open bitter and herbal, with lemon, bergamot and grapefruit adding citrus that never quite turns the opening sweet. Carlos Benaïm, Max Gavarry and Rosendo Mateu built the heart around pine tree, patchouli and sandalwood, earthy and resinous, with carnation, cyclamen and jasmine adding a spiced floral undertone alongside the wood and resin.

Oakmoss, tobacco, leather and amber settle the base, mossy and dry, closer to a worn leather armchair in a room lined with cured tobacco leaves than to anything modern or clean. The amber is the only real concession to warmth here, and even that stays restrained next to the moss.

Sillage forms a modest bubble, the kind an armchair neighbor would pick up on easily. Longevity earns its keep too, this composition holding steady well past the point where lighter fougères would have thinned out. This is a stubbornly old-fashioned composition, bitter and mossy from start to finish, best suited to someone who wants a real herbal, oakmoss-driven throwback and has no interest in anything softened or sweetened for easier wear.
