Our take

Targa opens with a noticeable hurdle for some wearers. The green bell pepper note in the top is sharp and distinctly vegetal, leaning into a bitter edge that can feel abrasive on first spray. It does not melt away quickly, and those who dislike that specific vegetable tone will find it lingers longer than they might wish.

Once that initial sharpness recedes, the heart introduces caraway and nutmeg alongside cypriol and black pepper. The spices feel dry rather than hot, and the resins provide a thick, heavy texture. Frankincense carries through from the opening into this middle phase, bridging the citrus brightness of the bergamot into a darker, more austere territory.

The foundation is a dense collection of woods. Oud, guaiac, cedar, and sandalwood create a heavy, resinous floor that sits comfortably near the skin without pushing outward. Myrrh and immortelle add a bitter, hay-like depth to the drydown, while vetiver and artemisia keep the earthy accord grounded and dry throughout the wear.

That opening green pepper remains the deciding factor for many. It is a specific, unyielding characteristic that defines the entire experience from start to finish. If that particular sharp, bitter vegetable quality does not appeal to you, the impressive wood and resin development underneath will not be enough to win you over.
