Our take

Fleur d'Interdit is a 1994 greenhouse in full riot, all wet stems and overripe fruit fogging the glass. It opens with a startling blast: watermelon and melon go sugary-tart, peach and berries smear across sharp green hyacinth and bergamot, a collision of high summer and drenched earth. This is not a polite floral. It shoves its bouquet of lilac, jasmine, rose, and gardenia right into your face, then pulls back into a powdery, almost cosmetic heart of violet and lily-of-the-valley. The drydown is where the magic dims: a polite whisper of oakmoss, iris, and soft vanilla that never quite earns the right to settle. Givenchy’s nose Daniel Moliere built something that feels like a memory of a 90s boutique, synthetic in the best way, but the sillage is a faint, fleeting cloud (2.90 out of 5) and longevity barely outlasts lunch (3.30). It is sweet, green, and blowsy, a daytime scent for spring afternoons when you want to smell clean but not soapy. Who should wear it? Someone who loves fruit salads tucked into a garden, who doesn’t mind reapplying. Who should skip? Anyone expecting depth, woody heft, or a night out. This is a picnic basket spilling onto wet grass, charming but disposable, and isn’t that exactly what a spring fling should smell like?
