Reckless

Character
Reckless opens with a blast of aldehydes and citrus that feels less like a spritz and more like a champagne glass shattering on marble. Tarragon adds a green, almost bitter snap before the florals rush in, jasmine and ylang-ylang creamy and indolic, peach providing a syrupy sweetness that threatens to tip into cloying. But then the base asserts itself: castoreum and leather, dirty and warm, with clove and cinnamon adding a dusty spice, while oakmoss and vetiver ground everything in a vintage, uncompromising darkness. The overall character is a woman who has just committed a beautiful, expensive mistake, and doesn’t regret it.
This is a heavy, opulent wear, intensely niche in its refusal to soften its edges. The powdery orris and tonka keep it from becoming feral, but the leather and animalic notes dominate. Its weakness is that the sillage is surprisingly controlled for a Roja Dove (around 3.2 out of 5) and longevity is average, so don’t expect a roaring trail. The rating of 4.20 reflects that it’s admired but not universally loved.
Wear Reckless on a cool spring or fall evening, when you’re dressed up and intending to be unforgettable. Skip it if you prefer clean, airy scents or if you’re going to a garden party. This is for someone who enjoys playing with fire and doesn’t mind getting singed.
