Cloves and cinnamon open Ambre Noir with a dry, dusty heat that feels like walking into a room where incense has been burning for hours. Bergamot adds a brief flash of brightness before the spices settle into the bark and cardamom, creating a textured opening that smells lived in rather than polished. The heart is a dense pile of dried fruits. Plum, dates, and toffee give the fragrance a sticky, jammy weight, while carnation and rose provide a powdery floral layer that keeps the sweetness from feeling flat. Raspberry and blueberry appear as dark smudges rather than fresh juice, sitting comfortably next to the geranium's green edge.
The base is a deep resinous blend where Peru balsam and myrrh meet amber and vanilla. Opoponax and Spanish labdanum add a leathery, medicinal warmth that grounds the sweeter tonka and benzoin. Cedar and sandalwood offer a dry wood foundation, while patchouli and vetiver introduce an earthy bitterness that cuts through the heavy balsamic accord. Musk lingers underneath it all, softening the sharper edges of the resin. The overall impression is a heavy curtain of scent in a dimly lit hallway, thick with the smell of old wood and melted wax.
