VIII Eight opens with a brisk mix of bergamot, grapefruit, and apple that cuts through the heavy spice of cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, and saffron. Artemisia and styrax add a resinous, slightly bitter edge to the bright citrus, while lavender and cypress keep the top layer dry and aromatic rather than sweet. The opening feels dense with ingredients, yet the citrus prevents the spices from becoming overwhelming.
The heart introduces tobacco and oud alongside labdanum and geranium. Cedar and cypress reinforce the dry woodiness, while lily-of-the-valley and jasmine provide a soft floral contrast that never turns fresh or airy. Cashmeran rounds out the middle with a smooth, synthetic warmth that bridges the spicy top to the heavy base. The tobacco here is dry and leafy rather than sweet or honeyed.
The base is dominated by amber, benzoin, vanilla, and tonka bean, creating a thick, resinous foundation. Leather and oud add dark, rugged facets, while guaiac wood, sandalwood, patchouli, and vetiver ground the sweetness with earth and smoke. Musk binds the entire structure together, leaving a powdery, amber-heavy trail that feels dense and enveloping on the skin.
The composition lists eleven base notes and eleven top notes, which makes the fragrance feel crowded rather than complex. Individual elements rarely get a chance to stand out clearly because the formula keeps adding more material instead of letting a few notes breathe.
